October is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month, and to kick this off the society will hold a National Buddy Walk. The National Buddy Walk was established in 1995 in New York City as the first event for Down Syndrome in the United States. Since then, it has become the world’s most widely recognized public awareness program for the Down Syndrome community. Last year the Buddy Walk hosted over 315,000 participants and raised nearly $13 million dollars in more than 250 Buddy Walk events both nationwide and globally! Check your local event centers for Buddy Walk events happening near you.
